The following is a request for consultants to assist with a specific element
of the AIM EdWeb Project:
The information provided in this email includes:
1. Background to the AIM EdWeb Project
2. Services Required
3. Request for responses
This email is also being copied to individuals with education experience who
were kind enough to respond to Bob Melling's invitation earlier this year.
However since more details of the project and required services for this
stage are now available, this message is being posted to the GEM list;
apologies for those of you who receive two copies.
1. Background to the EdWeb Project
Funded jointly by Resource and the Carnegie UK Trust, the aims of the EdWeb
Project are to:
· make educational content from up to twelve independent museums available
to the National Grid for Learning;
· demonstrate the potential role of the independent museum community in the
NGfL;
· enable the acquisition and sharing of new skills within the independent
and wider museum community;
· build on relationships between museums and schools in the development and
use of online resources;
· establish good practice in the use of existing education material online;
· establish means of sustaining and extending the development of online
education resources by museums.
A range of web-based educational resources will be produced by the
participating museums. These will be based on existing paper-based resources
and activities already used by the participating museums. They will meet the
needs of specific types of user and will be evaluated by representative user
groups as described below. The resources will reflect the needs of
school-based learners comprising each museum’s existing or potential local
audience, but the type of resource, if not the actual content, will be
applicable to learners at a national level. The online resources will be
created by staff in each of the participating museums, with training, tools
and technical and design support provided by the EdWeb Project.
The EdWeb Project Participants are:
Bodelwyddan Castle
Gainsborough's House
Greenfield Valley Trust
Llanduddno Museum
Long Shop Steam Museum, Leiston
National Horse Racing Museum
Selly Manor Museum
Sheffield Galleries and Museum Trust
Sir Henry Jones Museum
Wisbech and Fenland Museum
2. Services required
The EdWeb Project requires consultants to assist a number of EdWeb
participants in the creation of online educational resources. Each of the
participants has identified exisiting or in-progress educational resources
which they would like to make available to online users via their respective
websites. Consultants are required to:
- Review the selected resources.
- Assist the participants in adapting the resources for online use.
- Assist the participants in drafting a 'storyboard' of the resources for
evaluation by school-based users.
Skills and experience required include:
Knowledge/experience of schools-based use of museum educational resources
Knowledge/experience of delivering resources online
Knowledge/experience of constructing paper-based or activity-based
educational resources
It is envisaged that for each of the museums, the required consultancy will
be for a period of one day.
The timescale for these services will vary from museum to museum, but it is
envisaged that assistance will be required during the latter part of
September and the first part of October.
Travel expenses will be payable, however it is envisaged that, in order to
use the available time effectively, consultants will be within reasonable
travelling distance of the museums they propose to assist.
3. Request for responses
Expressions of interest in the form of a CV and a short description of
relevant experience should be emailed to the AIM EdWeb Project Manager,
Alice Grant, at [log in to unmask] Responses should state the museum(s)
which the consultant would be able to assist, availability and daily rates.
For further information also email Alice at the address above.
