Dear all
I have been asked to find out about the kind of provision museums are
currently making for people with visual impairments. I would be very
interested to hear about any programmes, events, interpretation or
facilities that are specifically targeted at visually impaired users in
museums and galleries. Very often these are part of education programmes but
they may not be. Examples might include, information in alternative formats,
workshops or handling sessions, touch tours, talking labels, audio guides,
tactile maps and pictures etc, I know there is a lot going on. I would be
very grateful if you would send me a short description ( just a couple of
lines) and a contact number and name of your museum or gallery so that I can
telephone you for more information if necessary.
This will also be added to the database of case studies which we now have,
do send anything else you feel would be of interest in the areas of
education, access and audience development to us at any time for this as we
are continually updating it. I would be particularly interested in any other
examples relating to people with disabilities as our information in this
area is a bit thin and it is of particular interest at the moment because of
the Disability Rights Commission which began work this month.
