To the Cipher Method of Freud (Translating all Symbols as Sexual):
Jude says, "Here's the rub. If you have made the a priori determination that all
symbols
are sexual, you have limited the lexicon in a way that might support a cipher
method. This is a great deal like providing an easter egg hunt for children, and
pretending the easter bunny did the work.A certain level of credulity is
required of all
participants."
Now that's funny and a quite good undoing of Freud.

Humor in Slogan Analysis:
In response to the phrase, "Deconstruction: Always interpret in terms of latent
content", Jude replies, "Deconstruction: Always is a long, long time. Interpret
is a big big word. Latent is epistemologically indefensible. Content is a matter
of opinion."
Jude, are you not using the cipher method here? Aren't you playing to the very
logic you criticize in Freud and Descartes? You've only substituted one a priori
set of terms for another set. The term shift can be enlightening, but the logic
is repeated.
Exchanging one slogan for a series of slogans . . . does not deconstruct the
logic of the slogan.
A Brief Grammatical Analysis:
"Always" is an adverb that specifies when to do a task. "Interpret" is a verbal
command that specifies a kind of task. "In" is a preposition that begins an
adverbial phrase specifying how to interpret. "Terms" is the object of the
preposition "in" and a noun that specifies conditions. "Of" is a preposition
that begins an adjectival phrase specifying what kind of terms. "Latent" is an
adjective that qualifies the noun "content." "Content" is the object of the
preposition "of."
The Cipher Method:
The above analysis of "Deconstruction: Always interpret in terms of latent
content" is a grammatical analysis, which, when applied to the analysis offered
by Jude, becomes:
For a long, long time ______________ in terms of a philosophically indefensible
matter of opinion.
Fill in the blank (______________________) with your own command--make sure it's
a big, big word.
The Final Analysis:
In other words, we can't really discuss anything; we can only exchange slogans.

A Deconstruction of Therapy (Catch 22):
By taking the term "therapy" out of "film therapy" in the phrase, "Film
therapy: Use a film to 'bring out' the repressed problems in the audience," Jude
effectively deconstructs the idea of therapy. She says, "Film riot: Use a film
to bring out the repressed problems in the audience, and if you unbelievably
successful, you get the Rodney King effect." The gist of this deconstruction:
therapy requires a controlled environment (a safe place), so if a controlled
environment does not exist neither does therapy.

Jude, I'd like to hear more on the following:
"It's a good place to begin, but can easily run you in narrowing circles without
radical exit. Keeping in mind that artist Freud was twinned by science Freud,
there
were many paths he was unable to pursue. A bit like Descartes, whose arguments
were
contexted by the compelling need to include god as the beginning of everything."
