I would recommend discontinuation of 'statin therapy in the event of
muscular pain or weakness, irrespective of CK increase. Continuation of
treatment despite myalgia may lead to worsening muscle toxicity and myositis
with progressive weakness and CK rise. Mild to moderate CK elevation (<5X
normal)may sometimes occur without muscle pain and may not be significant.
Baseline CK levels should always be recorded pre-treatment as these may
already show minor elevations which can fluctuate with exercise etc.

We know that statins can cause a myopathy and elevated CK.The BNF advises
that therapy should be discontinued if CK rises to > 10x normal. What do our
viewers do?
