In the Introduction to "Theorizing the Moving Image"
(by Noel Carroll, Cambridge University Press, 1996, page
xiii), Noel Carroll writes:
"Moreover, I prefer "moving images" to "moving pictures"
since PICTURES imply recognizable representations, whereas
by "images" I mean to signal that much of the art that concerns
us has been and will be nonrepresentational and abstract."
How much is "much", Noel? 1/100th of 1%?
And who are "us"? The structuralist pseudo avante-garde?
It's only the second paragraph of the introduction, and
you're showing your true colors as a contributor to the
Millenium Film Journal. Now we know where you're coming
from.
