The Centre for Educational Development and Media is hosting a very timely
development event:
Beyond Text: Enriching the e-Learning Experience
University of Derby, July 15 - 17, 2002.
http://cedm.derby.ac.uk/BeyondText/
This event is focused on the interface between technology and pedagogy, with
specific regard for ways of enriching what can be a somewhat 'monochrome'
online learning experience, literally and figuratively. The conference will
provide in-depth coverage of the potential of software like Flash,
Authorware, TRIADS, and various techniques for the use of video, digital
imaging and computer-based assessment. BUT this conference is not about
technical training in these options - it is concerned with providing
sufficient knowledge and understanding of their potential for enhancing
learning, for staff who have roles in support of the development of
e-learning. For example:
1) Technical staff who wish to find out more about pedagogical applications
of technology they may already be familiar with.
2) Educational developers who do not have the contextual technical knowledge
(rather than the skills themselves) to facilitate the use of technology for
enriched e-learning.
3) Decision makers, policy developers, and those tasked with
operationalising e-learning strategies.
It is NOT really aimed at teaching staff unless they have reached the stage
of being tasked with whole module conversions to online learning.
Numbers are restricted to keep groups small and focused. There will be
workshops for working through an e-learning process to achieve specified
learning outcomes, chosen by participants.
Early application is advised.
