“By the Altar”
I would stand like clergy
by the altar
and I would wear this long purple tunic
unbuttoned from the ankles up to my knees
and I would secretively torment my very flesh
while in secret being kissed
and standing on my feet next to the ostensory
I would sigh for love and for that sweet ardour
like one who unexpectedly would narrate her story
her solitary waiting
for pleasure and before such astounding light
before Hell’s rotundity
how amiably it would purge my mind
the vision of Christ on the cross
our Master and our Lord.

"Presso l'Altare"
io stava come chierico
presso l'altare
