Parsons seeks an Associate Dean for Educational Programs in the
Office of the Dean. This position reports to the Vice Dean and
works in close collaboration with the Dean, Senior Associate
Dean, Operations and Associate Dean, Academic Initiatives. The
Associate Dean for Educational Programs supervises a team of six
and has day-to-day oversight over the delivery of critical,
progressive educational degree programs at Parsons. As such, the
successful applicant will play a substantial role in developing
and implementing the school's academic planning agenda.
Responsibilities
* Oversees the day-to-day development and implementation of the
Academic Plan
* Supervises the Director of Advising, Assistant Dean for
Faculty, Assistant Dean for Curriculum & Instruction, Assistant
Dean for Curricular Affairs, Academic Systems Coordinator and
Administrative Assistant
* Ensures the delivery of critical, progressive educational
programs
* Fosters a productive and creative academic culture for the
School
* Communicates the implications of the Academic Plan to the
School community
* Works closely with the Associate Dean, Academic Initiatives to
identify the academic implications of introducing new curriculum
initiatives
* Works closely with the Senior Associate Dean, Operations and
with the Chairs of Academic Departments to facilitate the
implementation of the School's academic plans at the individual
program level
* Represents Parsons on University-wide committees and
task-forces related to the delivery of educational programs,
academic life and faculty leadership
* Chairs appropriate School-wide committees directly concerned
with the planning and delivery of Parsons' educational programs
* Plans and promotes school-wide academic initiatives that
engage the local, national and international art and design
academy
* In collaboration with the Asst. Dean for Faculty, develops a
long term strategy to strengthen the faculty culture at Parsons;
develops forums and faculty development exercises that promote
and foster an active, school-wide research community
* Defines policy, stream-lines procedures and creates a more
transparent, robust workplace environment
* Undertakes research that contributes to the bodies of
knowledge that inform and advance art and design practice,
scholarship or academic administration
Qualifications
* Relevant Master's degree or equivalent required
* Substantial academic administrative experience
* Demonstrated experience in supervision, mentoring and/or
leadership skills
* Demonstrated commitment to best practice in teaching
* Expertise in promoting a productive work culture and change
management experience
* Commitment to a management style that promotes critical
engagement and creative initiatives
* Experience in curriculum development
* Demonstrated ability to take initiative, see possibilities and
the independence to follow through
* Contemporary understanding of the pedagogical issues shaping
educational practices
* Broad understanding of the professional issues influencing the
art and design fields of practice
* Engaged interest in the socio-natural and political concerns
informing art and design practice
* Competent at delegating tasks and skills in time and project
management
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work
collaboratively with diverse constituencies
