Dear Norman,
I certainly appreciate those times in my life where I FEEL normal - that is, where the social circumstances permit the comprehension of otherness as a feature of likeness - the French IDIOT is perhaps the best example - yes, he's an idiot (outside the Polis) but he is OUR idiot (inside the enlarged Polis).
And, of course, NORMAL takes it origin in Latin - a carpenter's rule. I have my grandfather's carpenter's rule which he made himself - it hangs in my office and I take it to lectures from time-to-time to make the graphic point that being normal can be an achievement.
