150 years since the birth of “founder of Finnish musicology”
Ilmari Krohn – International symposium on Wednesday, November 8, 2018
Ilmari Krohn (1867–1960) was an internationally acknowledged musicologist
and Finland’s first Professor of Musicology. Krohn was instrumental
in establishing musical research in Finland, besides which he composed a
substantial body of music and created a career as a church musician
spanning five decades. Ilmari Krohn was Docent of Music History and Theory
from 1900 to 1918 and extraordinary Professor of Musicology from 1918 to
1935. He founded the Finnish Musicological Society in 1916 and served as
its chairman until 1939.
