1. Congratulations to Peter!
2. Re the Phil Newman/Mike Gill exchange below: back in about 1986 I painstakingly went through the Mining Yearbook's and other lists of Directors (and ownership holdings) for every mining company in Canada. Hard work because pre-digital! The addresses weren't so clustered (there were smaller clusters in a few office buildings in each of several cities) as those in London, but the Boards certainly were - there were about 20 people who between them appeared on almost every single board, except for those of the real majors (International Nickel, Cominco). Ownership was interlocked to the same extent. This interlocking Canadian ownership also involved a lot of USA minors: for example, Barrick Gold was then a blip on the horizon, with a small mine under development in Washington state, but it was definitely one of those in this interlocking net.
At the time it reminded me of the way Anglo controlled the Southern African mining world, with the exception that I could identify no single controlling family. It seems that mining must always have been organized like this!
