Cecilia, do you happen to know anything else about this Bill of Chartres?
in addition to the generic "of Chartres" folks, there was a family
called, from at least the 12th c., "of Chartres" with some very prominent
members --including some Bills-- active in (head of??) the Templars and
in crusading activities.
the family was, apparently, actually based in "Ver-les-Chartres" a
village southwest of the city.
