medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Thank you, Gary, for your response. What I noticed is that all, it seems, of the rites discussed in your sources post-date the (mostly) well-intentioned 9th-c. transmogrification of the baptism of Clovis into the anointing of Clovis as king of the Franks by Saint Remi. I suppose my current question is: is this the source for the sacerdotal aspect to the coronation ritual of all Christian monarchs in the Middle Ages and beyond, even, as Brenda described it, up to the present? Was Hincmar, for all intents and purposes, responsible for it all?
Thanks, MG
