In his essay on the plantonisms of the twelfth century, M. D. Chenu notes
that
"The very term philosophia, whether in Abelard or St. Bernard,
retained the comprehensive extension to all of Christian wisdom which
Augustine had given it - this, despite different emphases attending its
use and despite the already detectable tendency to secularize it.
[footnote: Thus the term philosophi, in contradistinction to philosophia,
designated the pagan philosophers.]"
Could anyone perhaps provide the location of Augustine's discussion of
philosophia?.
Thanks in advance.
