A friend working on provencal poetry of the 17th century has found,
in a piece of verses, two latin sentences :
Nam Deus diligit doctorem hilarem
I know some doctors, subtle, gentle, seraphic (including
"doctor eslasticus") but does anyone know anything of a doctor hilaris ? Who
could it be, if he ever exists ?
The second sentence is more common :
(the wine is good)
cum nos facit bene vivere et laetari.
I found "bene vivere et laetari" in some texts, and it is
obviously a current locution : does anyone know where it comes from ?
Last and final question ; the same author writes, a bit later : I
should sell my shirt, I should sell my hat, I should sell my "bonasina" and
my cowl...
What about a bonasina ? the word seems to be more latin than provencal.
Thank you for every suggestion,
Truly, D. H.
