Thanks for your thoughts, Patricia. I do have a case of deconsecration in
the early 1550s - ie during the reign of Edward VI, so I have no idea what
rite if any would have been considered appropriate, and in any case there
is no record of what was done.
Interestingly, the student of mine who is working on the handbook for the
Museum is Jewish - and I gather from her that they have rituals for dealing
with sacred artefacts from disused synagogues but not for buildings.
