When I first applied for my current post many years ago as
Cartographer it also went with the post of Map Librarian, that is, I
have several thousand assorted maps to look after, catalogue, keep up
to date, loan to staff and students, etc.etc. However, one elder
statesman member of the academic staff insisted I was a curator on
the back of the fact I also had to restore damaged maps and keep an
archive of the oldest maps. Personally, as it is all in my general
day to day work I see no difference in my title as librarian or
curator as it appears that several activities are all rolled into one
- although, of late, not contained in my HERA job evaluation to come
of what I actually do. Maybe I will get a regrade when it happens!!
