Hi Andreas,
The first place to start is with:
Rowan, M.G. (1993) A systematic technique for the sequential restoration of
salt structures, Tectonophysics, 228, p.331-348
As the title suggests, this paper provides a step-by-step guide to salt
restoration.
It would also be a good idea to check out the models presented for salt
tectonic processes. In extensional settings there are broadly two end member
ideas nicely illustrated in:
Vendeville, B.C. & Jackson, M.P.A (1992) The rise of diapirs during
thin-skinned extension, Marine & Petroleum Geology, Vol 9, p.331-353.
Buchanan, B.G. et al (1996) Development of salt-related structures in the
Central North Sea: results from section balancing, From Alsop G.I.,
Blundell, D.J. & Davison, I. (eds) Salt Tectonics, Geol. Soc. special
publication No. 100, p.111-128
Vendeville's paper describes extension after deposition of the overburden
while Buchanan's offers a different process of down-building. You may well
find your data/model falls somewhere between the two.
Also, run a google search on Simon Stewart - he has written many (too many
for me to list!) excellent papers on all aspects of salt tectonics. The same
goes for Mark Rowan - a number of which describe the restoration of G.o.M
salt structures.
There is a great review of advances in salt tectonics by Jackson & Talbot in
Continental Deformation (1994, I think) edited by Hancock.
Also, the AAPG published memoir 65, (1995) Salt Tectonics, a global
perspective, I think this is now out of print, but if you have access to a
library it's very good reference. It includes one of the (relatively) few
papers on salt in compressional settings - generally there has been far more
published work on salt in extensional basins and passive margins than in
compression.
Hope this helps,
Stuart

Subject: Balancing salt structures
Hello everybody,
I am looking for some references concerning the balancing of salt
structures. I would be very pleased if somebody could give me some hints.
Thank you very much!
Kind regards
Andreas Frischbutter
