Hey, Kevin...
It seems as if you didn't even read the other factor that I alluded to
in my previous post. Only a precious few of us have the priviledge of
sitting at a computer and bickering about things which the larger bulk
of the human race would find obscenely trivial. Why? Because many of
them have REAL problems. The use of sadism and/or masochism in many
movies isn't necessarily meant as metaphor -- it is an accurate
(occasionally watered down) reflection of reality. Much of humanity
lives in conditions you obviously are blind to. Sadism and masochism
are mere parlor games compared to the misery which for many is routine
living. And human misery is not a mere abstraction to be
pseudo-rationally evaded because it makes the theorizing uncomfortable.
This is the film-philosophy list, and rigorous philosophy demands that
our thinking never gets too far removed from our humanity.
Hmm...
That's obviously a long enough rant, don't you think?
Until next time...
MARK
P.S.
"Scream" is a comedy.
