We process some samples for DVLA on persons who have been convicted of
drink-driving. These are taken by local GPs.
The tests are LFTs (AST,ALT,GGT,ALP,BILI,TP,ALB) and FBC.
There appears to be a requirement that the samples must be analysed
within 6 hours of the blood being taken. As it often takes over 4 hours
for the samples to arrive we do not always achieve this in the
hurly-burly of an afternoon's workload.
Does anyone know why 6 hours? We're using SST tubes and the samples are
centrifuged before 6 hours so there shouldn't be any changes in the
serum. But I'm open to any suggestions re. a justifiable reason.
