It may be of interest that two randomized controlled trials of fairly standard follow-up testing in breast cancer patients demonstrated no benefit in survival or quality of life for patients with breast cancer:

JAMA 1994;271:1593-97.
There is no doubt too much unnecessary follow-up testing.
