I guess others will have seen today's Editorial in the Daily Mail (that renowned fount of accurate, evidence-based healthcare information)

They are endorsing differential pay rates as a panacea (? 'diocea'), to benefit NHS spending on patient care and local business profitability (being forced to pay above the going rate to attract recruits)
This equates to asking all NHS staff outside London to take a pay cut (following pay freezes & below-inflation rises) to subsidise patient care - I'm guessing from the objective that this will not bring a payrise for London! I expect there will be a parallel effect on private sector salaries
RCN have already voiced opposition, but I trust all unions (including FCS) will collectively be opposing this
Older professionals have so far generally put up with the current situation, despite the imminent further increase in pension contributions, but faced with a pay cut which will result in a pension cut there will inevitably be a headlong rush for the exit in order to safeguard their own future
One fears there will be a negative overall effect on services to patients - unless of course we're just old fogies and the profession would actually be better off without us? . . .
Best wishes
David
