Isn't the higher potassium in serum due to the potassium being released from
platelets as part of the clotting process?

We also use heparin samples in our lab for the same reasons. Our reference
range is 3.4-4.8 mmol/L.
The cause for slightly lower potassium values could be the lower hemolysis
observed in plasma as compared to serum.
