For references on Peter of Blois, you may want to try the works of C.
Tyerman, including his _England and the Crusades_ and _Invention of
the Crusade_. Any study of his passion sermon would benefit from
Tyerman's discussion of Peter's Passio Renaldi and the focus of
propagandists of the third crusade on the suffering christ.
On suffering in general, I would second Jussi's recommendation of the
Beriou-Touati book. Mollat's work and the two volumes of
essays edited by him on poverty would be good for contextualization and
also general bibliographic aid. If it is of any help, I've just written
an article on Jacques de Vitry's sermons to hospitallers and their
patients (the poor and sick) and find that his advice to the two
patient-groups is very similar.
