colleagues
we have a draft protocol; an intervention that already exists, a
statistician and some funding; but we are short of a principle
investigator. This may interest a GP or Practice nurse perhaps doing a
higher degree.
The protocol is for a randomised controlled trial of the effects of a
'facilitator' training enthusiastic practices to use a 'systems'
approach to a smoking cessation programme in Primary Care using an
existing and well defined system (the SCIP programme) compared to giving
practices information about the programme but without the facilitation.
The main outcome is the %patients asked about their smoking status and %
patients advised re support to stop. A local Health Education advisor,
Pat Hodgson is the facilitator, she has some funding from the HEA (£11K)
and she is extremely good and well informed.
This has tremendous potential; and could easily attract extra funding.
If you are potentially interested or know of somebody then let me know
cheers
