Fascinating: having just read "The Name of the Rose" could there
be a whole cache of Medieval "Evidence-based" material, hiding
out there in chained libraries, and written secretly by scholars like
Roger Bacon and William and Occam:
Beechwood v. ash saplings for burning witches (Beechwood is
more effective: mean time to incineration 20.4 mins v. 28.2 mins,
p<0.05)
Thumbscrews are more effective than the rack in obtaining
