A final pedantic point that I neglected to mention.

No one wants to read e-mail in their word processing program. If I
have to open another software application to read a message, I
won't do it. Instead, I will simply delete that piece of mail. Nor do I
want to read around formatting codes. Using ascii text rather than
RTF or HTML allows more people to access that piece of e-mail.
Okay, I think I've got this out of my system now.
