On behalf of a friend of mine (who is writing a Ph D thesis on a
Portuguese medieval chronicle), I would like to ask everybody the following
question: does anyone know something (oral informations, articles,
books...) on Saint Vincent of Zaragoza -or Saragossa- (the History of his
cult, folk traditions related to him, etc.)?
This saint was born in Saragossa, Spain, during the Roman era.
Hagiographies tell he became a martyr in Valencia: he was put the stone
wheel of a mill around the neck and thrown into the sea. The strems took
his corpse to the cape which now bears his name in Algarve (southern
Portugal). In the 12th century, under the orders of Afonso Henriques, the
1st king of Portugal, Vincent's reliques were sent to Lisbon, whose patron
saint he became.
Thank you very much in advance,
J. J. Dias Marques
