Hi Cindy
Regarding teaching/teacher training for disabled people. I Struggled
against a well known teacher training college to get a PGCE, and once
qualified, found that there was no accomodation possible for me as a
teacher despite equal ops policies .In both cases it was the 'all or
nothing' game which I failed at since I cannot compete suceessfully for
jobs which are designed for 'superhumans'. The fact that I could work a 0.6
week very well was of no interest since at that time the pobationary year
was compulsory and could not be taken pro rata, although this was not
thought to be connected in any way with equal ops or discrimination by the
Department of Education.
Hi Andrew
Regarding dyslexia in the workplace, I am a dyslexic and am currently
taking legal action against my employer for failure to make reasonable
adjustments under the 1995 DDA.
I'd be happy to contribute to any research in either area.
