A belated note - on 10 Sept the Church in Wales commemorates William
Salesbury and William Morgan, translators of the Bible into Welsh.
(William Salesbury would make a good patron saint for Welsh learners. He
tried very hard to get rid of the ferociously difficult system of mutations
by which the initial letters of a whole range of words change in different
ways according to the construction of the sentence. This is the greatest
stumbling block faced by adult learners of Welsh: those who learn the
language as small children appear to adjust to it automatically.)
