I can't say as I use CATs, but I certainly search the literature regarding
diagnostic tests.
The parts to the question that I use are:
1. the diagnosis in question
2. the diagnostic test I am interested in
3. any diagnostic test I am interested in comparing the above test with and
4. I seek articles that report sensitivity and specificity so I add these
terms to the search.
For example, if I want to compare spiral CT with ventilation-perfusion
scans in diagnosing pulmonary embolism, I would enter the following into the
PubMed search window: spiral computed tomography ventilation-perfusion
scan pulmonary embolism and sensitivity and specificity. Just to see
what I would come up with, I did just that. The fourth reference on the list
was: Garg K, et al. Pulmonary embolism: diagnosis with spiral CT and
ventilation-perfusion scanning--correlation with pulmonary angiographic
results or clinical outcome. Radiology 1998 Jul;208(1):201-8. Using PubMed,
additional articles can easily be found by clicking the "related articles"
link and similar articles will be pulled up.
Good luck,
Cheers and Best Wishes,
Brian
