>* Monegundis, widow (570) - lived as a recluse first at Chartres then at
Tours, where so many fervent women joined her that the convent of St
Pierre-le-Puellier was founded
sounds like she was setting up shop.
i've never come across her; does anyone know any details?
did she do Evilpaganthings?
sounds kinkie.
nor have i seen--in my very limited hagiographic travels--much in the way of
female shop-setting-up in central France in the later period of the 11th-12th
cc, when suchlike shop-setting seems to have been a growth industry amongst
men.
(It's been too long, and i don't recall if there are any women mentioned in
Oury, G.-M. "L'érémitisme à Marmoutier aux XIe et XIIe s.," _Bulletin
Tri-mestriel de la Soc. Arch. de Touraine_, XXXIII, 1963, pp. 319-33 or
___."L'érémitisme dans l'ancien diocèse de Tours au XIIe siècle," _Revue
Mabillon_, LX, 1970, pp. 43-92.)
there *is* the case of the late llth c. Bx Hildeberg of Gallardon, who
was apparently some kind of hermitess at (on the roof of??) St.
Martin of Pontoise, but maybe that doesn't count, not being in the woods(?).
(her brief _vita_ is published by Depoin in his ed. of the cartulary of SMdP.)
Best from here,
Christopher
