Not sure that the original post was really looking for tales of relics, but
I liked the first response in that direction so much that it reminded me of
my own stunning introduction to relic display:
My horrified awakening to the world of relics came in my late teens on a
skiing holiday in Austria. The local church (name long forgotten - town
Holzgau) had a class coffin set into its wall, wherein reclined a full
skeleton wearing red velvet night cap with gold tassel, red velvet toeless
slippers trimmed with gold brocade and revealing long bone toes through the
gap, a red velvet mantle trimmed with gold brocade, and worst of all, - gold
brocade along the top edge of every rib! The whole gruesome concoction lay
on its side with its head propped on one hand, interestedly watching us all.
