Dear Colleagues,
Paula Dryburgh will be leaving the Bodleian Library on Friday 25 June.
Paula joined the Map Room team in January 1996, appointed on a HEFCE-funded
project to catalogue the Todhunter Allen Collection of around 10,000 maps
and atlases dating from the seventeenth century to the early 1900s.
The collection was acquired by the Bodleian in 1987, and until Paula's
arrival information on its contents were only available to readers as a
list in the form of a rudimentary printed booklet. Today, the entire
collection can be found on Oxford's automated library system, OLIS,
expertly catalogued by Paula to full antiquarian standard.
Paula's contribution to map curatorship will be greatly missed by
those of us who know her - a regular at BCS events, the Warburg
series of lectures and many other mapping activities.
Her many friends amongst the lis-maps community will wish her well for her
return North of the Border to a new post as Community Librarian for
Edinburgh City Libraries, based at Wester Hailes Library, where Paula's
duties will commence on 5 July. We certainly hope to learn more about the
Library's map holdings before too long, and look forward to seeing Paula at
BCS in September.
