I don't know how apropos this may be, but once as I child I saw one of
my grandparents' 1900 wedding invitations saved as a family memento.
The date, given in posh Roman numerals, was MCM. So by that logic, it
should be MCMXCIX, which looks a bit like comic-book swearing....
