Dear Ellie,
I know nothing about sermons, but in relation to images of St
Christopher, don't forget stained glass! Certainly, one of the most
interesting aspects of these images was their thaumaturgic value: it
was thought that if one looked at an image of St Christopher before
noon, no violent harm would come to one through the rest of the day
(are sermons the best source for such considerations?). For this
reason, particularly large images of St Christopher were commonly
located close to the entrances to parish churches, etc. You have a
very interesting thesis topic here. Good luck with it!
Cheers,
Jim Bugslag
