The Sheffield Star's Website has carried a news item on a KPMG report
on the condition of the city's public libraries. The report, due to be
discussed by Councillors on Wednesday, highlights what it regards as
"high staffing costs" and low usage by "customers". Its recommendations
include the provision of evening and weekend services, and housing
libraries in the same building as other council services, so that
"instead of always having two people on duty for security reasons, the
branch could be run by one." KPMG also suggest a nook fund of pounds
sterling 853 000
