I'm teaching a course on "Rashi and David Kimhi reading Isaiah", in which
we're reading the Hebrew commentaries of these and other Jewish writers from
C12-14 as responses to Christian claims about the meaning of the book of
Isaiah. Though my students are all bright grad students getting Ph.Ds in
Bible, none of them were familiar with the basic assumptions made by
medieval Christian readers of Isaiah. Time to fill some gaps! Is there a
"typical" typological commentary on Isaiah available in English? I'd be
happiest with something as fulsome as Hugh of St Cher or the Glossa
Ordinaria but even an epitome of Jerome would serve.
