Dear Aida,
In respect of your query about mystery play revivals in nineteenth-century France, I suggest that you join the REED-L
discussion list and post your query there - it has many drama experts who would be only too pleased to help. Contact
Abigail Ann Young at [log in to unmask] for details about the list and how to join up.
Ron Ganze - In your last message you said that 'I've not yet heard from anyone directly regarding getting hold of a
VHS tape of a performance of a Mystery/Miracle play.' Did you mean companies or list members? Did you get my
earlier posting about the videos of this year's York production? In case you didn't, and if anyone else wants the
details now that this thread has come up again, here it is again:
> There are several places where you can get hold of medieval drama productions on video.
According to a leaflet which I have, Lancaster University Television sells a number of drama videos, including the
Chester play of the Purification; helpfully they are (mostly) available in the US from 'Films for the Humanities and
Sciences', PO Box 2053, Princeton, NJ 08543-2053. Or in England from Lancaster University Television, Lancaster
University, Lancaster LA1 4YW. They cost between fifteen and twenty pounds each.
Don't know about the Toronto production, but this year's production of the York plays in York, England, is certainly
available, in both edited highlights (one tape) and all eleven plays which were done on the day (three tapes). You can
order from:
Integrated Media Solutions Ltd, 5 Browgate, Baildon, Shipley, West Yorkshire BD17 6BP, UK.
Tel: (01274) 590708. Fax: (01274) 581766
Prices are about fifteen pounds for single tapes or forty-five for the set of three. I understand that they can take credit
card orders by fax.
Apparently the highlights will not be available until after Christmas, but the first video of the set of three is certainly
finished, and I've got my copy. It contains the plays of The Creation to the Fifth Day, The Creation of Adam and Eve,
The Fall of Man, The Flight into Egypt, and The Temptation.
Best wishes, Chris.
