An interesting question, to which I do not have the answer! Was there a
French equivalent of Skinner? If so, I'd like to know, mainly in conjunction
with the French investment in the Venezuelan gold mining industry, my
primary historical interest.
Also, with regard to Sardinia, Williams de Broe has been the brokers to Gold
Mines of Sardinia for the last four years (listed it on the AIM, etc etc) so
as the Mining Analyst I've been out quite a few times to look at the
projects and more recently the mine at Furtei. There's quite a lot of
non-gold sites on the island, indeed the last lead/zinc operations only
closed a few years ago and I think one of the barytes mines is still working
(?). From memory, the University in Cagliari was fairly knowledgeable, also
Progemisa (the state mining/geological company). I don't have contact names
but anyone who speaks Italian (I don't) could dig something up quite fast.
Hope this helps,
Martin Potts
