Dear all,
and yes I do mean all, after having an enlightening and enriching phone
conversation with a well known midwife from the ACMI, I write to ask
for even more action from your good and so passionate selves.
I propose that every midwife on the chat line that agrees lobbies the
ACMI National Executive at the following address.
Lorraine Wilson (Executive Officer)
3 Bowen Crescent
Melbourne, 3000
There is a number of ways we can do this we can use a chain E-mail, but
I think that may be too constricting, or people can e-mail me privately
or snail mail me there concerns etc.
or as I think is the better and more volumous is for each and every
person to write (if they agree) and personally send their concerns.
The issues I will be raising will be.......
1) That midwives demand a midwifery Council and for that midwifery
council to act as a political and industrial arm for midwives, private,
homebirth or within the established system.
2)That to secure the above the ACMI must attempt to secure the voice of
all midwives by soliciting information from members and non members
alike.
3)That the ACMI improves its communicative links to non executive
members and so be more respondant to the wishes of its members.
4)To at least increase its political and therefore public identity by
more frequent balloting and acting upon the results of such ballots.
5)That it is imperitive that consumers are represented and their input
sought in relationship to the aims of the college, and that this can
and should raise the awareness of doulas and birthattendants roles and
input.
I know that I can phrase this better but it should give the idea of
what I am saying. The ACMI membership is not enough to initiate change
WHY are people concerned about the future of midwives not in the one
college that SHOULD be able to express our concerns. Because of how it
is seen and because it carries little weight. Lets change it encourage
membership through promises that we can initiate and if not succeed
then at least fight for.
Gotta go now
Yours hopefully nigel.
P>S> tell any midwife you know or work with to do this
pleeeeeaaaasssseeeeee!!!!!
in love.
