THE GUY'S, KING'S AND ST. THOMAS' SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
Division of Medical and Molecular Genetics
MRC PhD Research Studentships
We have funding for one PhD studentship in statistical genetics,
to be held in the Division of Medical and Molecular Genetics
at Guy's Hospital.
The PhD student will develop methods of analysis for data from
studies using linkage and linkage disequilibrium to map genes for
complex diseases. The project will use a wide range of statistical and
computational tools including methodological development, simulation,
and statistical analysis using available packages.
Genetic epidemiology is a rapidly expanding field, and the
student will have the opportunity to develop his/her statistical
ability in a clinical and research genetics department, where the
issues are highly relevant. Links will also be made with
statistics research groups.
Applicants must have or expect to gain a first or upper second
class degree in statistics, mathematics or a similar subject.
Applicants from the biological sciences who have a strong numeracy skills
and computer experience will also be considered. Previous experience
in genetic analysis would be helpful, but is not essential.
Informal enquiries can be made to Dr. Cathryn Lewis on 0171-955-8761 or
email [log in to unmask]
Applicants should submit three copies of a letter of application and three
copies of their current C.V. (including details of two referees) to:
