Like you we have problems with grossly lipaemic samples from time to time.
We also use direct reading electrodes on a blood gas machine to measure
sodium and potassium (and glucose). Other things pose a problem as you
say. Generally we try to wait until the lipaemia has resovled, but if
other investigations are essentially urgent we have been advised that the
Ektachem system will give correct results. We have called upon a neighbour
to help with this from time to time, and the results appear to be
satisfactory as best we can tell.
