Following the recent threads on this subject I programmed an Excel
spreadsheet to perform the task. Two things then occurred to me
1. I was using the formula (for males):
CrCl = (1.2 * Weight * (140-age))/serum creatinine
Creatinine clearance is measured in ml/min and looking at the units on
each side of the equation we have
volume = mass * time
time amount
volume
this then equates to amount(mol) = mass*time^2
or perhaps more worringly time=sqrt(mol/kg) and I presume the
positive root in this universe.
But the second thing which struck me was why do we measure CrCl in
ml/min? For a profession which does more than pay lip service to SI
units we should be reporting clearances in ul/sec, or do the
Scandinavians do that already?
