I do not expect you will find a guideline that addresses your
question because it comes down to 'how your lab report is organized'.
We currently report a concentration of the monoclonal band and
report of the protein concentration is each region (alpha1, alpha2, beta
and gamma) which includes the monoclonal band quantity.
We have separate comments that identify where the monoclonal
band or bands are located, and if polyclonal gammaglobulins are evident or
supressed to assist interpretation by our clinical colleagues.
There is a report on guidelines for clinical lab evaluation of
monoclonal gammopathies in the February issue of Archives of Pathology and
Laboratory Medicine derived from a consensus conference....and your
question is not addressed in the articles.
