I'm afraid I didn't catch the beginning of this thread, but what Gary
Dickson's message makes me think of is the commission Cardinal
Stefaneschi made to Giotto for a new altarpiece for St Peter's, just
about this time (the date has not, I believe, been firmly
established; he also commissioned Giotto to design the Navicella
mosaic in the atrium of St Peter's), apparently for the canons'
choir, although I have never been quite sure what part of the church
that might have been. It is a double-sided altarpiece, however, and
I would be very interested if there were reflections of its
iconography in the "Anonimo Predicatore". What do you think?
