I am intrigued by an item of information included in a quotation in Bill
East's last message.
>[Jerome's translation of the Bible] did not receive the title
>of 'Vulgate' till the sixteenth century, though long before that it had
>acquired the right to it.
(Cambridge History of the Bible, vol. 2, p.99)
I would be most interested to know about the processes by which the title
"Vulgate" came to be ascribed to Jerome's translation.
