There are still a few places left on the following workshop:
Introduction to Employment Law
2 November 1998
Managers can no longer leave people management issues to personnel or
human resource managers - ignore them at your peril!
With the many changes happening in the library and information sector,
the European context and employment legislation, staff and mangers need
to be more flexible and more aware of the complexity of managing
people in the 1990s and beyond.
Who will benefit from attending?
Middle to senior managers who manage people, but who are not qualified
in personnel management, who wish to understand the underpinning
legislation and legal framework in order to effectively manage their
staff. Given the nature of the subject, there is a fair amount of
theory, but this will be balanced by case studies and group exercises.
Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss and resolve live
case studies which they may bring with them.
How will this event help you?
It will ensure that you understand the objectives and implications of
managing people within domestic and European employment legislation and
are able to apply them.
By the end of the day you will:
* gain a basic knowledge of domestic and European employment
legislation
* understand the employee-employer relationship, the different
types of contracts and the underpinning law
* understand different types of discipline processes, dismissal
and other remedies
* gain a basic knowledge of legislation relating to equal
opportunities
