There are just a few places left on the following workshop:
Subject to authority: how to set up an authority file
4 November, London
The need for consistent description within a bibliographic record has
long been acknowledged and codified through structures like MARC and
AACR2 what is often less clear is how as cataloguers or systems
librarians we maintain the same quality of data when large numbers of
bibliograpical records are brought together.
The flexibility for subject or name authority control offered by many
systems vendors now provide us with choices we may not be equipped to
evaluate and make selections appropriate to our users or clients.
How this event will help you?
This practical introductory workshop, designed for users to small to
medium sized automated systems who have to generate their own name and
subject authority structures and keep bibliographic chaos at bay.
Who will benefit from attending?
This is an introductory day. If you are a member of a large
bibliographic utility, such as BLCMP, SLS etc. this workshop is not for
you.
