ANNUAL CONFERENCE 1999
in collaboration with the St Albans Abbey Research Committee
ST ALBANS AND THE CULT OF ST ALBAN
Saturday, 17 July to Wednesday, 21 July 1999
The 1999 Conference will be held at the Hatfield Campus of the
University of Hertfordshire. The conference will examine the origins
and setting of the cult of St Alban from its beginnings in the 3rd
century A.D. to the restoration of the shrine in 1991-93. The focus
of the conference will be the intellectual, liturgical and artistic
achievements of England's premier abbey. Visits are planned to the
Abbey, St Michael's, Verulamium and other important sites in the
vicinity.
The Conference Convenors are Laurence Keen, Martin Biddle and Martin
Henig. Those wishing to offer papers for presentation at the
conference should write, giving a short resume and an idea of length,

The Conference welcomes professional and amateur enthusiasts equally.
Members of the Association will receive a booking form automatically
by the end of April 1999. Non-members who wish to attend should send
a stamped, addressed envelope to the Conference Secretary (Robert
Gwynne, 44 Montagu Mansions, London, W1H 1LD) to receive further
details and an application form by the same date.
At least two student scholarships will be available covering the
conference fee and accommodation expenses. Details of these will be
circulated in the new year.
